Hon. William A. Chatfield

Bill Chatfield is a distinguished public servant and military veteran whose career spans more than four decades in government and national service. A 35 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Chatfield served under President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s and held positions across multiple federal agencies, including the Department of Defense, the Civil Aeronautics Board, the Office of Personnel Management, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Department of the Interior, and the Interstate Commerce Commission.

In 2004, President George W. Bush appointed Chatfield as Director of the Selective Service System, where he oversaw the nation’s readiness to implement military conscription if required. His leadership in this role reflected both his deep military background and his commitment to national preparedness.

Beyond government service, Chatfield has worked as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., and continues to support veteran causes. He serves on the advisory board of the Travis Manion Foundation and the honorary board of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (T.A.P.S.), two organizations dedicated to assisting veterans, service members, and their families.

In 2016, Chatfield was selected as a member of Donald Trump’s presidential transition team. As the team’s advisor on Veterans Affairs reform, he contributed to vetting and recommending candidates for key cabinet and staff positions. His career reflects a consistent dedication to military service, veteran advocacy, and national leadership.
