Bringing America’s History into the Classroom
AMERICA AT 250: THROUGH THE EYES OF OUR HEROES
America at 250: Through the Eyes of Our Heroes gives students an opportunity to experience American history through the voices of the men and women who lived it.
This educational material is made possible by the generous donations of the wwiiheroesfoundation.org (a 501c3 educational foundation)
Created by the World War II Heroes Foundation, this documentary and accompanying educational curriculum were developed for superintendents, school administrators, principals, teachers, homeschool educators, and other educators who want to bring America’s history to life for the next generation.
Through firsthand testimony, historical context, classroom discussion, and engaging lessons, students explore themes of service, sacrifice, citizenship, leadership, freedom, and the responsibilities of future generations.
HISTORY THROUGH THE VOICES OF THOSE WHO LIVED IT
Rather than telling America’s story solely through textbooks, America at 250 allows students to hear directly from veterans and others whose lives connect them to some of the defining moments of our nation’s history.
Their stories provide students with a personal connection to history and an opportunity to better understand the sacrifices, challenges, and responsibilities that have shaped America over the past 250 years.
FLEXIBLE FOR YOUR SCHOOL OR CLASSROOM
We recognize that every district, school, and classroom is different.
The complete curriculum was developed as a five-day educational program, but educators are free to adapt it to their individual needs.
The program can be:
• Taught as a complete five-day curriculum
• Condensed into two or three classroom sessions
• Incorporated into an existing history, social studies, or civics unit
• Used as individual lessons or discussion topics
• Adapted to the needs and grade level of your students
The Teacher’s Guide provides educators with a framework—not a rigid mandate. You know your students and your classroom. We provide the resources, and you decide how best to use them.
