Colonel Warren G. Herreid II, Minnesota National Guard (Ret.)

Warren G. Herreid II is a retired Minnesota National Guard officer, businessman, philanthropist, and longtime advocate for veterans and the preservation of American military history. He enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in 1967 and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel with the 34th Infantry Division before retiring in 1993. In 2017, he was named a brevet colonel in recognition of his service and continued commitment to the Guard.

Warren’s dedication to veterans is deeply rooted in his family. His father, Warren G. Herreid, served with distinction during World War II, including helping liberate a concentration camp in Landsberg, Germany. Other members of the Herreid family served during World War I, World War II, and Korea, creating a multigenerational tradition of military service and remembrance.

Together with his wife, Jeannine Rivet, Warren has devoted significant time and resources to philanthropy, faith-based education, community service, and honoring America’s veterans. Among their efforts was the creation of the Rock County Veterans Memorial and the transformation of a historic county building in Luverne, Minnesota, into the Herreid Military Museum, where artifacts, photographs, and personal stories preserve the service of generations of local veterans.

Warren’s service and community leadership were recognized in 2019 with his induction into the Minnesota National Guard Court of Honor, following his father, who was inducted in 2002—a rare father-and-son distinction.

As a member of the World War II Heroes Foundation Advisory Board, Warren brings a lifelong commitment to faith-based education, military service, veterans, and historical preservation, and ensuring that the stories and sacrifices of those who served are remembered by future generations.
